History of Paradise Beach
Pittwater was first discovered by European settlers in 1788. The area was named by Governor Arthur Phillip after the British Prime Minister at the time, William Pitt the Younger. The peninsula on which Paradise Beach stands was firstly used as an agricultural area and as a port. Over time, the area became a popular holiday destination for people from Sydney and following the closure of the sand mining operations, the peninsula became a largely residential area.
